EDITORIAL ILLUSTRATIONS
It’s always an exciting experience to read the words of another creative and then create my visual translation of what was said. My goal is to not illustrate literally, but add another dimension of visual depth to provoke the audience into thinking more complexly. A collection of illustrations experimenting with various styles and mediums about travel and cultural identity.

"Istanbul, the Cat-pital of the World"
Created with digital watercolor effects about the beloved cultural presence of cats in Istanbul, Turkey.

"Can You Arrive?"
A piece created in Photoshop for the cover of an annual print piece from my school. Titled "Can You Arrive?" the illustration is an abstract concept of the school building and NYC Subway lines, representing each student's unique, academic path in the Gallatin School of Individualized Study.

"Me, My Bike, and Amsterdam"
A lovely, intimate story recounting the author's favorite moments exploring Amsterdam via bike. I chose a "rose tinted" color palette to emphasize the happy, nostalgic feel of the written memories.

"The Sacred Sounds of Fez"
A couple iterations illustration traditional Moroccan instruments related to a piece about music and sounds in Fez, Morocco. I wanted to figure out how to visualize city specific sounds so the green motifs on the left version were inspired by the design on the Blue Gate in Fez.

"An Oasis in the Desert"
Watercolor piece about the beautiful city of Yazd in Iran. I used a thick, coldpress paper to subtly imitate a sandy, desert like texture.

"Il Palio"
Palio di Siena, or locally known simply as "Il Palio," is a horse race held bi-annually in Siena, Italy. I wanted to create a piece that replicated the fast-paced excitement of the lively event.

"The Gurdwara"
An illustration created in Procreate for a piece about the Gurudwara Bangla Sahib in New Delhi, India. Because the piece discusses the inclusive nature of the gurdwara to people of all faiths, I wanted illustrate what a non-descript inidivdual's visit to the house of worship might feel like.

"HK LGBTQ"
A watercolor piece exploring the treatment and community of LGBTQ+ in Hong Kong.

"Over the Bridge"
A watercolor vignette about the author's memory of watching
a sunset over the famous Sydney Opera House and Harbor Bridge.

"Autumn Leaves"
Simple illustrations to imitate the colorful foliage of New Hamshire's autumn season.

"Las Fallas"
Las Fallas is a festival in Valencia, Spain that has a tradition of setting the large, wooden statues on fire on the festival's final night. A fun piece made to celebrate this grand spectacular custom.

"Around the Bend"
Vector graphics made in Illustrator for a piece reminiscing about the winding tree-lined roads of Chicago.

"Baldy"
A digital illustration created in Procreate to capture a memory of hiking through misty mountains. I wanted to create a dreamy and "lost memory" feel to the piece by keeping the colors pastel and have clouds imitate both mist and lost thoughts.

"Hiking Up Mount Fuji"
As the written piece was about tips and tricks for hiking up the famous Japanese icon, I made the piece with sharp, geometric shapes to emphasize the difficult nature of such a trip. I then used a "Great Wave" inspired color palette to soften the look up and give the illustration a familiar, traditional feel.

"Buskers of Prague"
Watecolor piece about the history and celebration of street music in Prague, Czech Republic.
